Bursting Strength

A measure of the resistance of paper or cardboard to pressure applied perpendicularly to its surface. The bursting strength is an important characteristic in the packaging industry and is regulated by DIN 53141 and ISO 2758 for paper and ISO 2759 for cardboard. The Mullen tester from the Mullen company is a standard device for measuring the bursting strength and measures the resistance of paper or cardboard to hydrostatic pressure applied to a circular area of defined size.
