The action whereby a customer buys a brand different from his or her customary brand. A brand switch may be planned prior to store entry or it may be made at the point of purchase, usually from some form of in-store stimulation. This brand switching can be a result of a regular brand being unavailable, an alternate brand being on sale, an alternate brand being featured on display, or because of a sales promotion.
