An aluminum salt of sulfuric acid. Its chemical formula is Al2(SO4)3. The water-soluble salt is used in a variety of ways in the chemical industry, the food industry (for firming and as raising agent in baking), and in water and wastewater treatment. In paper production, aluminum sulfate was formerly used as a filler. However, as aluminum sulfate reacts acid, it causes acid corrosion that gradually destroys the paper.
