Education & Certification

MaRC Program Details

Enrollees in POPAI’s Marketing at-Retail Certification (MaRC) program receive credits by attending seminars at POPAI sponsored events and other approved events. Each program attended will be given a credit value by POPAI. In addition to credits for attending events, Enrollees can earn credit by serving on a Committee or volunteering for the OMA Awards.

After nine credits have been earned in each of the three required categories, the Enrollee becomes eligible to take the Marketing at-Retail Certification exam. The Exam, which is online and can be taken at any time during the year, consists of 100 multiple choice questions about Marketing at-Retail. Once the exam has been passed, individuals can identify themselves as MaRC’s on business cards and letterhead.

To maintain certification, MaRC’s must participate in a maintenance program in which they must earn nine credits every three years.

Three Categories Create Well-Rounded Professionals

The MaRC certification program drives POPAI’s educational offerings. To ensure that MaRC’s receive a comprehensive Marketing at-Retail education, credits for certification are broken into three categories. The categories represent the three dimensions of Marketing at-Retail:

Category I Curricula topics include:

  • Advertising

  • Branding

  • Sales Promotion

  • Research

  • Consumer Behavior

Category II Curricula topics include:

  • Design and Engineering

  • Materials and Production Methods

  • Printing

  • New Technology

  • Types of Displays

Category III credits are earned for:

  • Dedication to the advancement of Marketing at-Retail

  • Involvement in the industry

  • Leadership

  • Participation in POPAI

Maintenance Program Makes your MaRC Valid

After passing the Exam, new MaRC’s will have three years to earn an additional 9 credits to keep their certification current. The maintenance program will ensure that that Marketing at-Retail education is a career-long endeavor and that Marketing at-Retail Certified Professionals are always at the forefront of the industry.
