MaRC Program Details
Enrollees in
POPAI’s Marketing at-Retail Certification (MaRC) program receive
credits by attending seminars at POPAI sponsored events and other
approved events. Each program attended will be given a credit value by
POPAI. In addition to credits for attending events, Enrollees can earn
credit by serving on a Committee or volunteering for the OMA
Awards.
After nine credits
have been earned in each of the three required categories, the Enrollee
becomes eligible to take the Marketing at-Retail Certification exam. The
Exam, which is online and can be taken at any time during the year,
consists of 100 multiple choice questions about Marketing at-Retail.
Once the exam has been passed, individuals can identify themselves as
MaRC’s on business cards and letterhead.
To maintain
certification, MaRC’s must participate in a maintenance program in
which they must earn nine credits every three years.
Three Categories Create Well-Rounded Professionals
The MaRC
certification program drives POPAI’s educational offerings. To
ensure that MaRC’s receive a comprehensive Marketing at-Retail
education, credits for certification are broken into three categories.
The categories represent the three dimensions of Marketing
at-Retail:
Category I
Curricula topics include:
- Advertising
- Branding
- Sales Promotion
- Research
- Consumer Behavior
Category II
Curricula topics include:

- Materials and Production
Methods
- Printing
- New Technology
- Types of Displays
Category III
credits are earned for:

- Dedication to the advancement of
Marketing at-Retail
- Involvement in the
industry
- Leadership
- Participation in POPAI
Maintenance Program Makes your MaRC Valid
After passing the Exam, new
MaRC’s will have three years to earn an additional 9 credits to
keep their certification current. The maintenance program will ensure
that that Marketing at-Retail education is a career-long endeavor and
that Marketing at-Retail Certified Professionals are always at the
forefront of the industry.
How to earn
credits
Depending on the
ability of the individual to attend events, credits can be earned in
about one year or over the course of a career. The following are
some ways of earning MaRC credits:

- POPAI University Masters
Program
-
- Enrollees will earn six (6)
credits each in Category I, Category II, and Category III for a total of
18 credits, or 2/3 of the credits needed to sit for the MaRC
exam.
- Industry Leadership
Conference

- Enrollees will earn two (2)
credits each in Category I, Category II, and Category III for a total of
6 credits
- POPAI University – On The
Web

- Enrollees will earn 1 credit in
Category I or Category II for each 90-minute Webcast attended.
- POPAI University – On The
Road
-
- Enrollees will earn between 1 and
3 credits in Category I, Category II or a combination of both for
attendance a POPAI University – On The Road, depending on the
length of the event.
- Committee Service

- Enrollees will earn 1 credit in
Category III for serving for a one-year term on a Committee.
- Judging for the OMA's
Enrollees will earn 1 credits in Category III for serving as a
judge for the OMA contest.
- Volunteering for the
OMA’s

- Enrollees will earn 2 credit
in Category III for serving as a Captain or Marshal during OMA set-up at
GlobalShop.
- GlobalShop sessions

- Enrollees will earn 1 credit in
Category I or Category II for attending GlobalShop sessions. Note: A
maximum of 3 credits in each category can be earned through GlobalShop
sessions.
